Invisalign is one of the more recent developments in the teeth alignment industry, and its primary purpose is to provide a treatment that does not reduce the quality of the smile. Whereas, a treatment such as metal braces can stand out making people feel a little insecure about themselves. Are you interested in investing in invisalign treatment, but haven't made your mind up yet? Then consider the following reasons for why you should do so:
Cost:
When Invisalign treatment first came out onto the market, it was considerably more expensive than the traditional metal braces treatment. However, in an effort to stay competitive, invisalign treatments have dropped in price, so they are not as expensive as you might think. The cost also depends on the complexity of your treatment needs. If it is only a few teeth that need to be aligned, then the cost will be relatively low, but if your treatment is more complicated than that, then you will need to pay more.
Self-esteem:
Some people who have braces feel awkward when smiling and therefore tend to hold back. Fortunately, with Invisalign most people will not notice that you have anything in your mouth when you smile. That's because they are designed to be invisible to the naked eye, and as a result you can feel comfortable when in a social setting.
Soft Material:
Invisalign is made from a soft material, and is therefore unlikely to cause any scratches when coming into contact with the inside of your mouth. This is advantageous if you play sports where getting hit in the mouth area is a possibility—simply because if you were to get hit then the pressure inside of your mouth when coming into contact with the Invisalign material won't be a problem. On the other hand, if you have metal braces then you could experience significant pain.
Removable:
Invisalign treatment options tend to allow you to remove the braces whenever you want. Since Invisalign braces can result in a slurred speech sometimes it might be beneficial to take the out when going to a party or other social gathering.
Teeth whitening:
Within the Invisalign braces you can have peroxide strips fitted, which will allow for a teeth whitening treatment to take place simultaneously. This means you will not have to spend extra time with a teeth whitening kit as all you simply need to do is wear the braces.

As a retired dentist, I work with charities which visit developing countries and educate children about dental care. It gives me great satisfaction to revisit these communities and see how proud the children are of their efforts. I am acutely aware that good dental hygiene can help prevent a range of serious conditions when these children become older. I started this blog because it greatly distresses me that many people in Australia do not seem to care for their teeth as much as children in these poor communities. This is happening despite ready access to items like toothbrushes and toothpaste which are luxuries in the places I visit.
