Dental Implants: Key Things You Should Know

Dentist Blog

Despite many improvements in the dental care sector, most people still lose teeth due to injury, decay, and periodontal disease. For years people only managed to survive with bridges and dentures. Luckily, dental implants are available today.

Dental implants can be defined as replacement tooth roots. They offer a sturdy foundation for the fixed or detachable replacement teeth designed to match the natural teeth. Here are pros of dental implants.

They are built to last

This makes them a suitable cost-effective and durable solution. The old dental bridges can only last up to seven years. But, with proper care, they last just a little more than nine years. After some years, you'll have to replace them. The dental implants need to be adjusted periodically, and they can last a lifetime as long as they are correctly placed and maintained by a dental implant professional.

Enjoy life

You can enjoy life more when you have dental implants. Rather than staying home because you feel uncomfortable or embarrassed in public, dental implants will allow you to have some fun.

Retain your natural smile and face shape

When your face lacks teeth, it can sag and appear sad and sunken. With dental implants, you will maintain your smile and the natural face shape. Consider talking to your tooth replacement expert before considering any tooth replacement option.

They are healthy, strong and stable

Dental implants are the option you have other than your natural teeth. They are stable, strong and will restore the lost teeth making them feel, look and function like natural teeth as long as an expert implant dentist implants them.

They protect the healthy teeth

To place a tooth supported bridge, the professional has to grind away the teeth on either side of the missing teeth. This damages healthy teeth, just to restore the missing one. Your adjusted healthy teeth are then attached to support a bridge. The dental implants go into your jaw bone, where the missing tooth root was. They do not damage healthy teeth. They also assist the healthy adjustment teeth not to shift.

Eat any kind of food

You can eat your favourite foods when you have dental implants. You will taste and enjoy food without hesitation as long a proven implant dentist placed your dental implants. With dental implants, you'll bite and virtually eat anything naturally without feeling  uncomfortable.

Now you know some essential things about dental implants.

Dental Health: Not To Be Taken For Granted

As a retired dentist, I work with charities which visit developing countries and educate children about dental care. It gives me great satisfaction to revisit these communities and see how proud the children are of their efforts. I am acutely aware that good dental hygiene can help prevent a range of serious conditions when these children become older. I started this blog because it greatly distresses me that many people in Australia do not seem to care for their teeth as much as children in these poor communities. This is happening despite ready access to items like toothbrushes and toothpaste which are luxuries in the places I visit. It is my hope that this blog encourages you not to take dental health for granted. My greatest wish is that you can be as inspired as the children I see in my charity work. Please read on and enjoy.
