Traits That Make Dental Bridges a Practicable Tooth Replacement Option

Dentist Blog

When you lose one or a couple of teeth, your dentist will recommend replacement therapy to avoid complications that typically come with gaps in your teeth. But with the variety of solutions that are available, you may not be knowledgeable enough to discern what type of treatment will be suited to your needs. For instance, dentures are great for people on a tight budget, but they do come with some drawbacks. Implants provide patients with permanence, but they are the most high-end option you can choose. If you are looking for something that is in between, then dental bridges may be an ideal solution. Here are some traits that make dental bridges a practicable tooth replacement option for most patients.

Dental bridges provide semi-permanent replacement

When it comes to tooth replacement, one of the biggest concerns that patients tend to have is the permanence of their treatment. Although dental bridges do not last a lifetime, they do have a considerably longer lifespan when compared to alternatives such as dentures. As long as you take good care of your dental bridge, it is likely that it will stay intact for at least a decade. Additionally, since you do not have to remove them to clean and maintain them, they are also much easier to care for than their denture counterparts are.

Dental bridges provide enhanced comfort

Another concern that patients have about false teeth is the discomfort that they have to endure when wearing their replacement teeth. Take note that the only tooth replacement option that will feel as natural as your normal teeth is an implant. Nonetheless, the comfort that dental bridges provide does come pretty close. Firstly, the dental bridge will not move about when you are speaking or eating, which makes them a more secure option than dentures. Secondly, since the bridge is cemented directly onto the teeth adjacent to the gap, it does not apply any undue pressure to your gum line or your jaw. Overall, you will find it quite easy to adjust to wearing these prosthetic teeth, which eases the healing process.

Dental bridges provide a natural aesthetic

The third concern patients typically have regarding false teeth is that they will be conspicuous when compared to their natural teeth. You do not have to be worried about this when you elect to have dental bridges installed, as they are custom made to your individual dental formula. The enamel of the bridges is colour matched to the shade of your teeth, Moreover, having the bridge in place also ensures that your oral health does not deteriorate further as the bridge ensures your remaining teeth stay secured in their designated positions.

Dental Health: Not To Be Taken For Granted

As a retired dentist, I work with charities which visit developing countries and educate children about dental care. It gives me great satisfaction to revisit these communities and see how proud the children are of their efforts. I am acutely aware that good dental hygiene can help prevent a range of serious conditions when these children become older. I started this blog because it greatly distresses me that many people in Australia do not seem to care for their teeth as much as children in these poor communities. This is happening despite ready access to items like toothbrushes and toothpaste which are luxuries in the places I visit. It is my hope that this blog encourages you not to take dental health for granted. My greatest wish is that you can be as inspired as the children I see in my charity work. Please read on and enjoy.
